Anti-Human Trafficking Unit from Jordan to Visit Ottawa for Technical Assistance Program
Ottawa, Canada – May 25, 2024: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) – Criminal Investigation Department from Jordan is visiting Ottawa this week. The visit is part of the Technical Assistance Partnership-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) program, a Global Affairs Canada initiative, implemented by Canada’s Alinea International, aimed at providing short-term technical assistance to enhance anti-human trafficking efforts with a trauma and victim-centered approach.
This Canadian technical visit is a unique opportunity set to make a significant impact on the TAP-EDM Jordanian initiative in three key areas: (1) The Jordanian delegation will gain valuable insights and learning opportunities that can be applied to their efforts back home, ultimately enhancing their capabilities in combating human trafficking. (2) This visit will further solidify the relationship between the governments of Canada and Jordan, fostering stronger diplomatic and collaborative ties. (3) The visit will highlight Canada’s contributions to global security and human rights, showcasing the concrete efforts made by Canadians to create a safer world for vulnerable populations.
The delegation will participate in various activities and presentations, including: RCMP, Ottawa Police Service, Ontario Native Women’s Association, Ministry of the Attorney General, Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Initiative, Victim Services (Ottawa Police) and Ontario Provincial Police. The Canadian technical expert team lead by Wayne Hissong and Andrea Wojtak are supporting and accompanying the delegation throughout the week and will also be holding a closing activity, awarding of certificates to each delegate to recognize their participation and the knowledge gained during the visit.
The Jordanian delegation includes four distinguished members, Major Muhammad Al-Khalifat, Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit; Captain Yazan Sanad Salama Al-Tarawneh, Public Security Directorate – Criminal Investigation Department; Captain Nawaf Mufid Naeem Ali, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and First Lieutenant Abeer Muhammad Al-Shibli, Public Security Service, Criminal Investigation Department.
Her Excellency Sabah Nizar Rashid Al Rafie, Ambassador of Jordan to Canada, will participate in the activities to welcome the Jordanian delegates, underscoring the importance of this collaborative effort.
This visit represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing fight against human trafficking and exemplifies the collaborative spirit between Canada and Jordan.
