Support for Data for Affirmative Action Accountability in Ghana

The Technical Assistance Partnership—Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) is collaborating with the gender department of Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) to strengthen the use of gender-related data to support the adoption of the Affirmative Action Bill (AAB). The AAB legislation aims to redress the social, cultural, economic, and political gender imbalance in the country and provide an accountability framework for gender equality to guide all government activities.

This initiative will involve developing advanced information management systems to collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data, enabling the creation and dissemination of comprehensive gender equality statistics. Additionally, it will strengthen departmental leadership to aid national entities in conducting research and formulating or implementing policies to reduce gender disparities.

With the assistance of a Canadian expert, the work will involve developing a baseline and leveraging existing data on the current state of gender equality to implement the AAB. The expert will also establish gender-specific metrics to monitor the progress of the policies described in the AAB and enhance the department’s capacity to collect and analyze data.
