Canada in Action: Global and Local Solutions for Climate Resilience
For Immediate Release
Gatineau, QC – November 15, 2024, The Technical Assistance Partnership-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM), funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Alinea International, is pleased to share that it is organizing a local “Climate Action Forum,” on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Dalhousie Student Union Building in Halifax. Presented in partnership with CLIMAtlantic, the Climate Risk Institute and the College of Sustainability of Dalhousie University, this forum will highlight Canada’s contributions to advancing climate resilience both locally and globally and provide opportunities for attendees to network and engage with climate experts. All public, including students and community members, are encouraged to attend.
This free event begins with a buffet lunch at 11:45 AM, followed by the main program at 12:30 PM. Please note that an RSVP is essential to secure your spot for lunch. The afternoon will feature a keynote presentation and a panel discussion, where Canadian and international experts will explore key climate themes, including the impacts of rising sea levels, building climate-resilient infrastructure, and enhancing research partnerships to support vulnerable regions such as the Atlantic provinces and the Global South.
Participants can join interactive roundtable discussions with climate experts during the World Café session on topics like environmental impact assessments for climate-sensitive mining, sustainable procurement practices, and initiatives preserving the environmental heritage of women in Morocco’s Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve and building risk awareness in Diverse Stakeholder Groups.
According to our partner, “At CLIMAtlantic, we recognize that while reducing emissions remains essential, we must also prepare for the changes that are now inevitable due to past greenhouse gas emissions,” said Sabine Dietz, Executive Director of CLIMAtlantic. “Adaptation is key to managing the most pressing risks and mitigating the worst-case scenarios of climate change. This forum is a critical opportunity for Halifax and beyond to work together on building resilience and ensuring sustainable futures for our communities.”
A networking reception with light refreshments will close the event, offering a chance for attendees to connect with climate leaders and peers.
