Project Overview
This initiative supported Bhutan’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MENR) to assess Bhutan’s Mining Policy Framework (MPF).
Project Profile
The Technical Assistance Partnership – Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) with Canadian Technical Expert, Carlos Alberto Ortega, in collaboration with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), worked with the Department of Geology and Mines under Bhutan’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to assess the country’s current mining policy framework.
The initiative focused on several key areas, including the legal and policy environment, financial benefit optimization, socioeconomic benefit optimization, environmental management, the post-mining transition, and artisanal and small-scale mining. Following the assessment, experts provided technical support to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in priority areas.
