Dr. Robin Cox has over 25 years of experience in disaster and emergency management and climate action. As Director of the Resilience by Design Lab (RbD) at Royal Roads University, she leads an interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral team—including faculty, students, youth, and external partners from government, business, and academia—conducting regional, national, and international climate adaptation research and capacity-building projects.
As an expert with the Technical Assistance Partnership-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) initiative, Robin collaborates with fellow Canadian experts Jenn Hoffman and Michelle Hamilton-Page to support the Maldives Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy (MCCEE) and the Maldives National University in developing an academic framework for climate change and environmental sustainability research.
Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Robin is the Program Head of the Master of Arts in Climate Action Leadership at Royal Roads University (RRU) and a Professor in the Disaster and Emergency Management Master of Arts program. Her work focuses on advancing leadership and upskilling in climate and disaster resilience through initiatives such as the M.A. in Climate Action Leadership—an innovative open-learning graduate program—the development of the first comprehensive Climate Action Competency Framework, and a range of nationally funded research projects. These efforts contribute to scholarships while empowering youth, professionals, and communities to take action on climate and disaster resilience. Robin holds a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia.
