Johanna Sanchez is an epidemiologist and global health researcher with over 15 years of international research experience. She specializes in early childhood growth, nutrition, infection, and environmental epidemiology. Her dedication to international research, data-driven approaches and collaboration is evident through her participation in public health and clinical research projects across more than 20 countries worldwide, including significant contributions to childhood nutrition studies in Mexico and Bangladesh.
As a Canadian Technical Advisor for the Technical Assistance Partnership – Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) initiative, Johanna collaborates with the Government of El Salvador to support the Ministry of Health and the Office of the First Lady in developing a Child Nutrition Strategy. The primary goal is to prevent, address, and diminish overweight and obesity among Salvadoran children on a national scale that will consider the distinctive nutritional profiles within the country groups.
Based in Toronto, Johanna conducts research and teaches at Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of Toronto. She holds an honorary research fellowship at the Children’s Health and Environment Program at the University of Queensland in Australia. Johanna has a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Global Health, with a Master of International Public Health (MIPH) from the University of Queensland, Australia, and an Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) from the University of Toronto, Canada.
