Socio-Economic Expert

Ian Gray is a Socio-Economic Expert with 20 years of experience as a management consultant. He specializes in socio-economic analysis, understanding how policies, programs, and economic activity impact the human environment. Ian advises local, provincial, and federal governments, First Nations and Metis communities, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations on issues and opportunities in the social and economic spheres. He has consulted across Canada and occasionally abroad, including to the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C.

As an expert for the Technical Assistance Partnership-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) initiative, Ian works alongside the Government of Mexico, collaborating with the National Institute for Women (INMUJERES) in partnership with other TAP experts on childcare policy, gender equality, and social inclusion. Ian and the team are developing a sustainable national policy framework for early childhood care, targeting the most vulnerable.

Prior to consulting, Ian worked in international community development, implementing and managing projects in Honduras and El Salvador for two years, providing relief to families and communities devastated by natural disasters. He has also conducted short-term projects in Cuba, Colombia and Chile and traveled extensively throughout the Americas. These experiences give him first-hand knowledge of project design, implementation, and local development realities in Latin America.

Based in Alberta, Ian is a partner at Nichols Applied Management, an Edmonton-based socio-economic consultancy. He has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, Netherlands.
