In a remarkable display of collaboration and expertise, Alinea International, through the Technical Assistance Partnership-Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM), hosted a Climate Action Forum in Halifax, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, CLIMAtlantic, the Climate Risk Institute, and Dalhousie University’s College of Sustainability. Held before year-end, the event showcased Canada’s efforts in advancing climate resilience locally and globally.
The forum attracted over 83 local and global participants, with an additional 700 tuning via Facebook Live. Attendees included students, professionals, and community members who had the opportunity to network and engage with leading climate experts. Gordon Smith, Principal of pLAnsmith.ca, delivered an inspiring keynote titled “The Art of the Muddle – Thoughts on Developing the Practice of Climate Change Adaptation.” His insights on climate adaptation’s challenges, progress, and future set the stage for the day’s discussions.
The event also featured interactive roundtable discussions during a World Café session with panel discussions exploring rising sea levels, climate-resilient infrastructure, and partnerships supporting vulnerable regions like the Atlantic provinces and the Global South. Interactive roundtable sessions delved into environmental impact assessments, sustainable procurement, and preserving Morocco’s Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve.
Notable speakers included Sabine Dietz (CLIMAtlantic), Simron Singh (University of Waterloo), Samantha Page (Climate Risk Institute), Georgia Klein (Dalhousie University), and TAP-EDM experts Kathy Adams, Khaddouj Benkhadra, and Anne-Marie Saulnier. The forum underscored the importance of collaboration in tackling climate challenges and bridging local and global perspectives.
