Sashia Leung is a proud Wet’suwet’en (Indigenous) Chinese woman dedicated to advancing the human rights of Indigenous Peoples and reconciliation in Canada and globally. She has over a decade of experience working with Indigenous Peoples, governments, organizations and the public. She specializes in multilateral engagements, dialogue processes and negotiations among Indigenous Peoples and governments, focusing on self-determination and self-government through treaties and agreements in British Columbia, Canada.
As a Canadian Technical Expert for the global Technical Assistance Partnership- Expert Deployment Mechanism initiative, along with her colleague Lea Nicholas-MacKenzie, Sashia will be working to support capacity and enhance dialogue between the national Government of Ecuador and Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities of Ecuador.
Sashia has extensive experience in international relations and supporting the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. She holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia. Sashia is a member of the Coalition for the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Banff Forum and alumna of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference. She has served on various boards, including Board Chair of the NVIT Board of Governors, the only Indigenous public post-secondary institution in British Columbia.
