Philip Jakob is a Canadian international development economist with over 20 years of experience in program design and management. He has overseen the planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating various development projects in Canada and the Latin American and Caribbean regions. Philip is responsible for the successful design and delivery of projects funded by Global Affairs Canada, the U.S. State Department, Swedish International Development Agency, USAID and UNICEF.
As an expert for the Technical Assistance Partnership (TAP) initiative, Philip works in collaboration with Guatemala’s Secretariat against Sexual Violence, Exploitation and Trafficking in Persons (SVET) to support the design and implementation of a digital platform for the collection and monitoring of data and indicators on crimes of sexual violence, exploitation, and human trafficking. The access to this strategic data will enable SVET to carry out a more informed and objective analysis of risk factors and allow it to concentrate financial and human resources towards those areas and population groups that are most vulnerable to these crimes, especially women, girls and migrant populations.
Philip cherishes every opportunity to engage with people, execute plans as a team, and see results. He ensures every project is grounded in the needs and perspectives of local stakeholders, especially populations who depend on the justice system to protect their human rights. From experience, Philip knows people are receptive to a shared experience approach and believes a team can achieve a lot by collectively finding solutions for this critical work.
Based in North Vancouver, Philip is a Senior Advisor on various justice-strengthening projects, including for the British Columbia Court of Appeal and Court Services Branch, as well as the Gender and Justice Foundation in Central America. He holds a Master’s in International Development Economics from the University of San Francisco and a post-graduate diploma in International Program Management from Capilano University.
